Project Micro-history

A little over a year ago we got the bright idea to sell our first Baja home/garden and build a new one on the vacant adjacent lot we bought 13 years ago. The idea was to gain construction experience, create a beautiful, unique home/garden, and increase property value. Little did we know what we were getting ourselves into. Yikes!

We designed it, with Rob pretending to be an architect while I pretended to be his client--a very demanding client, he always adds. We broke ground in March 2006 and--no surprise--it's taking longer, and costing more than we thought. We sold our original home to a wonderful couple, who in addition to being gardeners (yes!), are not in a hurry to move in. This is truly wonderful since we are so far behind schedule.

Along the way, there was a hurricane in August, 2006 and our contractor disappeared in September. Other than that, things are going along pretty well. We now have a crew of 10 guys who work directly for us, and we're starting the finishes. Colors, textures, and decisions, decisions, decisions. Our plan is to get it super-finished, ready to be a vacation rental (3 bedroom/3 baths--I think it will be gorgeous--we're taking reservations!). Then, we'll take off with our camper/truck for a longterm exploration southern Mexico and Central America. Stay tuned....
